Presentation

The Young Research round table of the 2023 Congress of the Institut des Amériques, dedicated to the professional integration of PhD students, offers to examine the career paths of those doctoral students who, after having defended their thesis, have decided to maintain a close link with the world of research during their professional trajectory, without however being destined for a career as a professor or a researcher. The main objective of this round table is to highlight the various professions involved in the promotion of research (research engineer, research support officer, doctoral school administrative manager, scientific expert, archivist-documentalist, etc.), and in particular the functions based on the use of digital tools (coordination of a website, scientific watch, editing of an online journal, etc.), which are becoming increasingly important in the training of doctoral students.

The interest of this round table will be to understand the motivations that pushed the speakers to follow these paths and to question the relationships they have today in their work with their own research and those of the researchers with whom they collaborate on a daily basis. Thus, the exchanges between the speakers will be an opportunity to look at the multiple professional opportunities that a thesis can offer.
